Can you tell me what's wrong with this picture? Sound system installation issues and troubleshooting.

November 9, 2022

There is a serious installation issue with this connector. It can blow an amp. Shut down your equipment during a party which can lead to unwanted service calls when you're trying to entertain.

So, what's going on? And why is it a simple fix?

Take look again at this connection.

Notice the jacket around the wires. Notice the copper strands around the terminals.

The jacket has been stripped back too far, the jacket is leaving the copper exposed, and the copper strands are not in the terminal. This is an opportunity for disaster.

Best-case scenario if these wires touch, you get a short and your system shuts down. Your system doesn't work, and you have to make a service call.

Worst-case scenario, you get a short that creates heat, melts components in your amplifier, and ruins your equipment. Again, your system doesn't work, and you have to make a service call. But now, you have to buy new equipment to get your sound system back.

Unfortunately, striping jackets too far is a common problem with DIY installations and installers that don't have meticulous attention to detail. When someone overlooks something this simple, they often overlook other aspects of your sound system. If the installer can do this to a 5.2 million dollar home, what is the chance of them doing this everywhere?

Fortunately, the client called Entertainmet Pros this time. We were able to troubleshoot the system and found multiple installation mistakes, including not connecting various speakers in multiple rooms.

Do us a favor, and look at your system, if you have exposed copper, speakers with no sound, or other AV problems, do not call the original installer, they are going to continue to provide you with shoddy work. Instead, call a reputable AV company. We are proud of our 5-star rating on Google, Facebook, and Yelp. Our clients have graciously taken the time to leave detailed reviews about our work.

So, give us a call at 727-804-2277. Entertainment Pros would be happy to help you get your sound system back to optimal performance.
