Motorized Pull-Down TV Mount Installation
See how a “pull-down” motorized TV mount solved a tricky glass-walled living room. Entertainment Pros delivers creative TV solutions.
Solving the “No Good Wall” TV Problem
Every now and then, I walk into a home where mounting a TV feels almost impossible. Maybe every wall is covered in windows. Maybe the furniture arrangement is locked in. Maybe the perfect viewing spot is occupied by a fireplace.
This was exactly the case in a recent project—narrow living room, tons of glass, and a layout that didn’t leave a single perfect spot for a TV. The homeowners wanted comfortable viewing from multiple seating areas without being installed way too high, blocking the windows or obscuring their natural light. A standard wall mount just wasn’t going to cut it.
The Challenge and the Solution
Our client wanted a TV on a wall where it is less than optimal. He needed options. He needed a location that necessitates flexibility.
The room had only one wall as an option (all other areas were glass), but they also needed more seating locations, and this again (due to room layout) was limited.
The solution? A motorized “pull down” TV mount.

How a Motorized Pull-Down Mount Works
These mounts come in different flavors—some being manual, others motorized with a remote control. When raised, the TV fits against the wall (it protrudes more than a standard flat mount or articulating mount, due to the increased structural mechanics), but with an easy downward pull—or the press of a button on the motorized models—your TV drops down to a specified height for viewing at a comfortable height.
These movable mounts also move forward, as they were initially designed to mount a TV over a fireplace mantel, so they drop and move forward to clear many mantel dimensions.
When you want to use your fireplace (or just move the TV back to its raised/recessed location), you either move it up or press the “home” button on the remote (again depending on the model). Voila, back to the room layout you wanted!
Why Professional Installation Matters
Due to the increased weight and forward articulation, the wall needs to be strong with a suitable substructure, and your mount needs to be seriously mounted by a professional (or someone very knowledgeable with home construction techniques). There are also many factors involved in mounting a system like this above a mantel, as it needs to extended from the wall far enough and high enough before it hits the mantel, while also retracting and raising without hitting the ceiling.
These mounts are not for everyone or every situation, but they definitely fill a void and solve a location problem.
