Upgraded Condo AV System: Sonos and Samsung OLED Install
Project Spotlight: Hurricane Sparks a Home Entertainment Upgrade
Sometimes, things break, but this can lead to fun new opportunities. For one of our recent clients, a hurricane-triggered power outage allowed him to splurge on a complete living room entertainment overhaul. Here’s the story.
Entertainment System Overhall: From Power Outage to Inspiration
Our client’s journey began with a 4 ½-year-old 75" Samsung LED TV. After losing power during a recent hurricane, his master bedroom TV stopped working when power was restored. He replaced the damaged TV with a newer model and was immediately impressed by how much TV technology had improved.
He had to look closer at the surround sound system in his living room. Compared to his new TV, his living room's 75" Samsung TV, paired with an underwhelming Samsung soundbar, subwoofer, and wireless surround speakers, was outdated. He wanted an upgrade—a better TV and better sound.
The Plan: Modernizing the Living Room Setup
We discussed the challenges of upgrading his condo. With limited options for running wires, we agreed on a Sonos system for its wireless convenience and premium sound. The client also opted to replace his main TV with the latest Samsung OLED model for a sharper, more vibrant viewing experience.
Upgrading the Visuals: A Stunning Samsung OLED TV
We removed the existing 75" Samsung LED and replaced it with the new Samsung 77 OLED TV. We kept his existing mount, but added a Sanus drop-down mount that would allow the new Sonos Arc soundbar to mount below the TV and raise/lower to facilitate connections on his Sonos Arc soundbar.
Enhanced Audio: Sonos for Seamless Surround Sound
After configuring the soundbar, we installed the (2) Sonos Era 300 surround speakers in the back of his room (sitting on his dual-end tables). After this was completed, we installed (2) Sonos Sub 4 subwoofers, (1) on each side of his sofa, under the end tables. We chose the rear of the room instead of the front because he is in a condo, and if we keep the subwoofers as close as possible to his listening position, he would be able to experience more bass with less disruption to his neighbors.
After he loaded the Sonos app on his phone and we updated the software for all of the new speakers, we balanced his new system to his room and showed him how to use it. His choice for demo material was "Top Gun-Maverick" which provided plenty of visuals along with a great surround mix, especially during the flight sequences.
Here’s what we installed:
- Sonos Arc Soundbar: Mounted below the TV for an immersive front audio experience.
- Two Sonos Era 300 Surround Speakers: Positioned on dual end tables at the rear of the room to create a full surround sound effect without messy wiring.
- Two Sonos Sub 4 Subwoofers: Placed on either side of the sofa. This strategic placement delivered deep bass directly to the listening area while minimizing sound transmission to neighboring condos.

The Big Test: Top Gun - Maverick
With everything installed and tuned, it was time for the final test. The client’s choice of demo material, Top Gun: Maverick, brought the system to life. From crystal-clear visuals to heart-pounding surround sound during the flight sequences, the experience was nothing short of cinematic.
Results: A Clean Install and a Happy Client
The installation was clean, all of the wiring was managed properly, and the client is now looking forward to weekend sports with his new system!
